Partner Sonja J. McGill authored the Texas Lawyer article titled, “How to Prevent Internal Control Breakdowns and Workplace Harassment.” The piece explores lessons workplace managers – from HR professionals to in-house counsel – can learn from what is reported to have taken place at Wynn Resorts with respect to alleged sexual harassment perpetrated by founder Steve Wynn, and, broadly, in light of the #MeToo movement. McGill cautions companies to: 1) tailor investigative measures by employee category – including taking very seriously and acting quickly on claims made against senior management by those not as high in the corporate hierarchy and tapping outside counsel; 2) making sexual harassment training mandatory for all employees, regardless of level; 3) putting in place “meaningful” confidential hotlines where complaints are given appropriate attention; 4) ensuring that all allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated; and 5) taking swift and effective corrective action when needed.
